Free Program! The ABeeCs of the Pollinator Perimeter

We are excited to announce a new monthly series of classes at Raleigh City Farm – Pollinators in the Piedmont!   Join us one Wednesday evening a month to learn ore about pollinators and then try yummy flower and honey themed delights!  This month’s class – The ABeeCs of the Pollinator Perimeter – will include a tour of the history and purpose of Raleigh City Farm’s Pollinator Perimeter.  RSVP via our facebook event page to let us know to expect you.  Special thanks to the Burt’s Bees Greater Good Foundation for helping us provide this programming free of charge.

May Wild History Walk! Berries & Blooms

Wild History Walk  – Blooms & Berries | Surprise Location TBA, Raleigh, NC | May 22, 2-4 PM

Piedmont Picnic Project will host a Wild History Foraging Walk + Wild Food Tasting on Sunday, May 22, 2-4 PM. We’ll forage edible wild plants together, learn more about the local history, and then taste dishes made from the same plants!

Our walk will take place at a surprise location within a 20-minute drive of downtown Raleigh.  The location will be a lovely natural setting with abundant wild edibles and a unique connection to Raleigh’s history.

We will review foraging guidelines and safety as well as instruction on plant uses and identification. Along the way, we’ll share history about the local area and this month’s theme: Berries & Blooms.

For the light picnic you can expect wild teas, local bread, local cheese, homemade wild jams and jellies, wild greens, and a wild treat for dessert!

Notes:

+Parking for the walk is in a lot on Crabtree Blvd at the Southwestern corner of the intersection of Raleigh Blvd and Crabtree Blvd. The nearest address is 2321 Crabtree Blvd – go just east of this on on Crabtree Blvd to access the lot.
+Please arrive 15 minutes before the start of the walk to check in. The walk departs at 2 PM.
+Please wear appropriate shoes and clothing for walking outdoors. [weather-specific advice].
+All participants will be asked to sign a liability waiver for the event.
+Any persons under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
+Your confirmation email serves as your ticket, but no need to bring it along – we’ll have a list of pre-sale ticket holders.
+Walks are rain or shine, but in the event of storms, our make-up date for this walk is Sunday, May 1, 2-4 PM. Please check your email the morning of the walk for notice if there is a chance of storms.

Interested in learning to make and preserve your own pickles? Want to know which spring wild or home-grown veggies make the best pickles? Either way, we’ve got you covered!

Information will cover how to make pickles out of wild or cultivated local veggies. Techniques generalize easily to pickles made from a variety of vegetables! You will leave with a solid overview of how to preserve your pickles using the water-bath canning method. We’ll send you home with a jar of pickles of your choosing that you help make!
